The Lettuce Entertain You Group has done it again, welcome Chicago Stella Barra Pizzeria.
First of all, you walk in past the cookie/cake/pastry display case, which all look delicious. The space is wide open, with a 20 (or so) foot ceiling with exposed pipes and conduit. The décor is very hip. There are standard-height tables, as well as high pub-style tables. The kitchen is open to the dining area at the back of the restaurant.
We kept it very simple when we ordered. We split an Purple Kale salad, which was very tasty. For our entrée, we got two pizzas. There are many varieties of pizza from which to choose. You can get either a Red Pizza, with traditional tomato style sauce, or you can get a White Pizza with a creamy mozzarella sauce. You may chose from their pre-determined combinations, or create your own. Un addition, you may choose either regular crust, or thin cracker crust. We stepped outside of our comfort zone and ordered the Fennel Bianco Pizza and it was GREAT!
The pizza had the cream infused mozzarella on it like the burrata.. It was so delicious, that we threw caution to the wind, and ordered a second Margherita Pizza. All (or most) ingredients are organic and very tasty. It was the perfect blend of chewy and crisp with a fantastic sauce, slightly tart with a bit of sweet from the tomatoes and great quality cheese. The pizzas had the perfect flavor combination. The crust is spectacular. The size is perfect.
The staff was very nice, informative, and very eager to please. In fact, I think we had at least five different people attending to us. They are all young, hipster types, what you would expect on Halsted and Armitage.
All in all, we really liked the place and will definitely return for more good food and great Chicago atmosphere.
